Freaking post-secondary schooling.

PROTIP: When attempting to advertise your self, do not over-emphasize the amount of money in scholarships person x has won last year. This will just demoralize and depress others.
i.e. "It's thanks to studentawards.com and these forums that I was successful in winning over $200,000 in scholarships, including the TD Canada Trust Scholarship, Millennium National, etc. among others."
Thanks studentawards.com, because EVERYONE is able to get out of university debt free AND have enough for a down payment of a house. Not to mention, everyone gets interviewed by MacLean's for their opinions of the school system. Because it's definitely possible to have a 99 average and be part of 50 demanding extra-curricular activities legitimately.

Sure, I'm just saying this because I underachieve, and blah blah blah but honestly, it's not possible for everyone to do actually do so much without lying or have misleading statements. Also, hasn't anyone actually noticed it's the same few group of people who win every scholarship? I mean, when you've already covered full tuition + living expenses for your four years of undergrad AND have enough to pay for an executive MBA at some ivey league school AND can buy a decent car then something's not right.

The funny thing about this is a large portion of these people will end up working for underachievers.

On a side note, what is with people and big-name schools? I'm one of the few who has spent nearly every single lunchtime listening to a person from a liaison team from an university talk. Today, all of a sudden, Queen's comes and about half of the grade 12s come AND some grade 11s show up. I couldn't even get a booklet because of this mess and people who don't even care about making an informed choice and have probably already chosen their major/university get booklets. Whoopdifreakingdoo. Now I have to order one from them which will take at least a month to mail which is a month of me being depressed about society.

There was more I wanted to type but I forgot what. I might add more on later.

Tell me about, it's worse in the UK. I'm applying to med school there and they want you to have perfect grades, a million extracurriculars, community involvement, time spent in a freaking HOSTPITAL!!!, and have to be caring! And they ask the stupidest problems: why do you want to be a doctor? I want to make the world a better place...no you freaking retard!!! I like the salary!!! but of course you can't say that...

and there is no freaking way anyone gets 100 in English...unless you bribed the teahcer

as for scholarships, go for the underground ones that noone ever applys to, you should scrape together a few hundred/thousand bucks

come now bq, there's a reason big-name schools are big name...usually because they're good...

woot, Queens! I'm applying there. You need to apply to McGill too.

I'm essentially applying to all scholarships and bursaries that I qualify for.

Big name schools are generally well rounded and offer good programs in general areas (engineering, sciences). My parents would rather me go to U of T for commerce than York EVEN THOUGH Schulich has a better business program.

Also, WTF MED SCHOOL ALREADY? But yeah, I was thinking about going to London or Stockholm to do my (possible) MBA and the requirements are freaking insane.

Not applying to McGill, waste of $85 for somewhere which I'll never go to because the only decent business school in Quebec is HEC and it's a French school. Also, I really dislike the thought of going to Queen's. I have some sort of negative image of Queen's in my mind for some reason.

LOL me too. Lucky for me, Alberta has loads of scholarships.

Big name schools have good reputations, means it's easier to get jobs after you graduate.

Yeah, in UK med school starts right after highschool. Well, obviously London is ridiculous. Which college did you apply to? KCL is the only one I qualify for, every other one needs you to be 18 by Sept. 31, 2009 and I miss by a month. Damn my birthday!!!

Sweet, Stockholm, don't they speak un-English there?

*eff you karl with your alberta riches*

*eww.. stockholm. Don't go man, you'll be stuck there and will become retarded. Haven't you heard of the Stockholm syndrome? The mental illness that kids get for spending too much time in Stockholm?

...That's right, your IQ will be less than Bush's.
